The Guided Path, we believe school refusal—or 'school can’t'—is never a choice, but a distress signal. Our approach is rooted in three core principles:  
 
1. It’s Not Defiance, It’s Dysregulation
Research shows that school avoidance stems from unmet needs, whether sensory, emotional, or cognitive. We look beyond the behavior to:  
✔ Identify hidden barriers (anxiety, executive function gaps, social challenges).  
✔ Build neurodivergent-affirming strategies, not compliance. 
 
2. Progress Starts Where the Child Is
Evidence-based frameworks (PBS, CBT) guide our work, but flexibility is key.
We:  
✔ Meet students in their window of tolerance.  
✔ Celebrate micro-wins (5 minutes in class today > 0 yesterday).  
 
3. Systems Change, Not Just Child Change
Real transformation requires team effort.
We:  
✔ Work with school to ensure adjustments within that environment meets the student's needs.  
✔ Equip families with home-based tools.
✔ Advocate for NDIS-plan alignment across all environments.
